What are the Seven Chakras?:

The word Chakra refers to a concept first mentioned in ancient sacred Sanskrit Hindu texts. It describes a worldview which holds that we humans are an amazing miracle of divine creation and as such are comprised of a number of energy centers called, chakras which act as interface devices between this earthly, physical dimension and the unseen, spiritual dimensions. The word, chakra itself is derived from the sanskrit word for wheel, assumed to have been chosen due to the spinning / whirling nature of this interface when observed by those gifted with spiritual sight.

Tradition has it that there are seven main chakras in the human body, each with it's own particular vibration and color and each responsible for channelling/responding to different aspects of human nature, the lowest one dealing with survival and security issues on the physical plane while the topmost serves as our doorway to transcendant spiritual dimensions.

7th Chakra Sanskrit: Sahasrara Understanding/deep, all-embracing wisdom/Enlightenment
6th Chakra Sanskrit: Ajna Higher Intuition/clairvoyence/psychic awareness/telepathy/ Transcendance in space & time in thinking
5th Chakra Sanskrit: Visuddha Communication/speaking one's Truth/diplomacy/creative acts of communication(speaking/singing/writing)
4th Chakra Sanskrit: Anahatta Center of pure Love/Compassion/confidence/responsibility to others
3rd Chakra Sanskrit: Manipura Power/Vitality/social relations/contentment/attention & concentration /seat of ego
2nd Chakra Japanese: Hara. Sanskrit: Svadisthana Center of Sexuality/emotions/creativity
1st Chakra Root or Base Center. Sanskrit term: Muladhara Center of Safety security/ Survival/physical needs/sexuality/seat of Kundalini

(*Note: Male sexual organs are located primarily in the 1st chakra area, so males experience their sexual energy as primarily physical. However, females' sexual organs are located primarily in the second chakra region, so females experience their sexual energy as predominately emotional. Both chakras are involved with sexuality.)
