What to look for?
Buying an anal sex toy is much like buying a vibrator or dildo. (see our How to buy a vibrator or dildo guide ) The most important thing to remember when buying an anal toy is to ensure that it has a flange (large base) on it. Having a flange on your anal toys will keep them from getting lost up inside you.
You'd be amazed at how fast a sex toy can disappear deep inside your ass, well beyond reach of a finger or two. There are all sorts of stories of odd items being retrieved from the asses of inexperienced anal play lovers, such as cellular phones set on vibrate mode (guess who was dialing that number?). If you want to avoid the thrill of having a doctor retrieve your sex toy out of your ass, best make sure it has a nice large flange on the end.
How do I start?
If you have never experimented with anal play, you might try using fingers first. You can wear a surgical glove to help things slide along and to keep any rough spots on your fingers from causing irritation. See how many fingers are comfortable for you (for most beginners this will be ONE) and see how deep you enjoy your anal stimulation. Once you have an idea of the width and depth of your anal pleasure, you can choose an anal toy that fits your desires.
What type of lube for anal sex?
Some sex lubricants on the market are sold as "anal lube" and usually contain some sort of numbing ingredient such as Benzoate. You should avoid using these types of lubricants. Anal play, when done correctly, should not hurt. Using a lube that numbs you could keep you from feeling the pain that is telling you to stop! One of the best lubes available for anal sex is silicone based lubes such as Eros Bodyglide, ID Millennium or WET Platinum . Unlike water based lubes, silicone lubes do not dry out and provide a great lubrication for anal sex.
What type of material?
Many anal toys come in different materials. The rule of thumb is, non-pourus materials such as metal, glass , arcylic and silicone slide best, pourus materials such as jelly and technoskin slide less and can not be sterilized.
Please note: If you are going to use a silicone lube with silicone toys you should test a small unseen area for any chemical reactions. Silicone lubes may bond with silicone toys causing a gooey mess. To be safe, we recommended using a good water base lubricant with silicone toys. Anal Sex Aids: As was stated earlier, we do not recommend any product that contains a numbing agent for anal sex. But if you are have trouble relaxing the sphincter muscles you may want to try Innuendo . It is an all-natural herbal gel, designed to condition the tissues in and around the anus. First time users of Innuendo report easier penetration, with frequent users also reporting greatly increased pleasurable sensations. This is not a numbing agent. Innuendo works by helping to temporally relax the sphincter muscles while allowing you to feel every wonderful sensation.
